Sona stood by the window in the small room Carol had given her, lost in her thoughts. It had been a week since the accident, and though Jay was no longer in danger, he remained in a coma. The relief that he had defeated death was overshadowed by the wait for him to wake up. Tanya, on the other hand, had not survived. Learning that Tanya had deliberately caused the collision to hurt Jay erased whatever sympathy Sona had left for her.
Tanya’s parents had returned to Bangalore after her death. Jay’s family, meanwhile, hovered around the hospital, monitoring who visited him, particularly those outside the family. Carol Amma had been the one to handle Sona’s persistent pleas to see Jay, always calming her down. Earlier that morning, Carol had left for the hospital again but had returned with no news. Sona felt increasingly restless—her only wish was to see Jay.
